If you are the victim of a crime while in Taiwan, in addition to reporting to the local police, contact AIT Taipei (02) 2162-2000 or AIT Kaohsiung (07) 238-7744 for assistance. AIT’s consular staff can, for example, help you find appropriate medical care, contact family members or friends, and explain how funds can be transferred. Although the investigation and prosecution of the crime is solely the responsibility of local authorities, consular officers can help explain the local criminal justice process and assist with finding an attorney if needed.
